Our Daily Grind

I am blasting layers of rust off the edge of the passenger side wheel well that will be bolted to the floor of the truck bed. Watching the rust, dust, and corroded metal fly from the grinder can be exciting...even satisfying.

From the ground up

"According to the grace of God given to me, like a skilled master builder I laid a foundation, and someone else is building upon it. Let each one take care how he builds upon it. For no one can lay a foundation other than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ." 1 Corinthians 3:10-11

I had crawled under the truck, about mid bed, to begin an inspection of the vehicle's frame. I wanted to see if there were any obvious points of failure or degradation of the main frame rails and chassis.

Grandpa's old truck

That old thing?

Luke 13:8-9 And he answered him, ‘Sir, let it alone this year also, until I dig around it and put on manure. Then if it should bear fruit next year, well and good; but if not, you can cut it down."

I am 5 years into my ministry at my current rural post and 5 weeks into actively rebuilding my grandpa's old truck and there are many parallels. In this blog, I will use that platform to consider the joys and challenges of rural ministry, but it all starts with one assumption: You absolutely must love it.
